Without An Interruption
We inherit the weakness and fallibility of our predecessors in family and society. Without an interruption from God’s grace in our personal trajectory and momentum, we will not be able to affect much change, except perhaps to make it incrementally worse by adding our weakness and fallibility to the long train that came before us.
But Christ gives new life along with a new inheritance, and breaks the cycle. You heard that right.
“For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And it was not paid with mere gold or silver, which lose their value. It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God. God chose him as your ransom long before the world began, but now in these last days he has been revealed for your sake.”
1 Peter 1:18-20 NLT
Make no mistake, it takes courage to accept this invitation; this ransom, and not a small amount to continue in it. It’s a daily fight. And sometimes we don’t win the day.
No matter, we can remind ourselves anew that God is making something new with us, redeeming us and our families from “empty lives.” What could be more worthwhile? So we fight on, fight back losses and gain ground.
If the Lord Jesus has ransomed you from an empty life, rejoice! And continue until you pass on an inheritance that is in and from Christ. Your faithfulness in your family and generation is something precious and part of the purchase that was already paid for on your behalf. In this way, the influence of your life in Christ is having generational impact on the future.
