Many writers have impacted me; some inspired, some challenged, others offered perspective. I remember my first attempt at writing. I was in Jr. High, which was quite a while back... It sounded eerily like the first book I ever really read / enjoyed, S.E. Hinton’s The Outsiders. I couldn’t really put my finger on what spoke to me from that book at the time, but it meant a lot to me, and I may have been missing the obvious.
The style and arrangement on the book is still in process, but I have decided where to start, and what follows this post within the next few days will be the first chapter. I thought it might be worthwhile to give an intro of sorts, for purposes of context, as well as a peak into my hopes as to what this content might contribute to others.
At the top of my working manuscript, I have four bullet points that I continually have referred to in the process. The serve as pillars of intent for the book.
Encourage
Strengthen
Challenge
Inspire
This is my hope of contribution.
One thing to keep in mind, these are observations and takeaways from near twenty years of cross cultural work, and the person you will meet in some of the content is in the process of change. Still is, I hope. Some of these snapshots will be raw.
A final thought…. My style in writing is intended to inspire thought, rather than lead you to a carefully curated conclusion. If you are inspired to think for yourself, and to think deeply, I’ve accomplished my goal.
In Christ Alone,
Scott
